A place for adults who still have problems wetting the bed to talk about their feelings, to discover solutions, and to talk about life in general.
So just bought a new mattress, the old one is barely 2yo but isn't supportive enough for my back/nerve problems and has really affected sleep quality...
At the moment we're protecting it with plastic poly and cotton terry lined absorbent sheets, which has worked. The new mattress comes with a fairly expensive tencel mattress protector, it looks/feels less protective yet has a longer warranty and they said it's waterproof and can absorb over 1L of liquid. I'm willing to trust it and my old protectors have had so many accidents and washes they're getting wear and tear quickly.
Just wondering if anyone else has experience with the tencel style mattress protector and how it goes over time with multiple washes and moderate to heavy wetting?
I'll be experimenting with different kinds of wearable protection too (currently relying on awful store-bought pads or just normal underwear and dealing with accidents), including pre-fold nappies, waterproof covers, absorbent reusable pull-up pants, plastic pants, inserts/boosters and higher quality disposables so if there's any advice on washable+wearable protection that'd be appreciated too

I've just been updating my profile information because I had a birthday last week, and so I'm now 25 instead of 24. It doesn't feel any different though!Just so you all know a bit about me: I suffer with anxiety and occasional panic attacks, and sometimes I do an accidental wee in bed while I'm asleep. Now I'm a year older than this time last week I can report that nothing has changed, although...

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Both my anus and my urethra have been left closed except with manual intervention. I hardly ever pass urine via the usual route (I have a suprapubic catheter passing directly into my bladder about 2 inches below my...

Concerning your mattress, even if urine is primarily composed of water, it’s also composed of urea. Waterproof doesn’t mean “urine proof”. Therefore I still would protect my mattress with a rubber sheet.
I never tested it but I read that disposable diapers + cloth reusable pads worked well.
I guess I can always keep the plastic sheet on, put a bed pad over it and the tencel cover over that. Then I'll know by the pad if it has gone through or worked, cheers :)
And nothing wrong with that nicholas2, can always rely on the solid rubber/plastic sheet. I do have plastic pants but I find them uncomfortable if there's a bad leak and it pools or builds up in the bottom of them. But they sure are effectivene for keeping the bed dry!
Thanks for the advice :)
Recently I got a new mattress and I'm not liking the cover I got for it. It does work but want something quieter.
I'm reading and hearing about new materials like polyurethane and tencel but not finding them in a store.
Where should I be looking online, any recommendations?
I will say the tencel cover has been excellent so far! Virtually silent, cooler, not a single leak through even with bigger accidents and unlike the pvc backed terry cover you can actually put it in the dryer. It's so good to go without the plastic or terry sheets, highly recommend if you can find one!
