Depends don't soak all the night time wetting, after trying sooo many different things, I found that I can put on a Depends pad max absorbency after I put slits in the outer cover, about 12 slits, to allow fluid to pass through it. I then put on a Depends diaper max absorbency over that...this creates kind of a diaper and a half instead of just a max absorbency diaper. Over that I put on a 100% cloth adult pull-up incontinent pant because what might seep out at the outer edges, or especially the small of my back, get soaked up by the cloth pull-up. Then a snug fitting (at the legs and high above the waist) plastic pant that fully covers everything. The bed has a washable soaker pad, just in case. 99% of the time, the bed is nice and fresh when I wake.
the way how you prepare your padding sounds very complicate; but more important is that it works for you. I use all-in-one diaper pants with additional booster pads depending on the situation. All of these pants and pads are washable. Since a few days I also use disposable soaker pads without plastic backing. They soak a lot and are easy to replace. The whole changing is quite easy and not time consuming at all. I also wear plastic pants in certain situations but usually the all-in-ones are waterproof.
