I'm also new. I have bipolar disorder as well as adhd. I was just diagnosed this year with adhd. My pdoc will not medicate me for adhd. The only time I was ever on any stimulants (not for adhd btw) I went very hypomanic so I am quite leary of using any stimulants.

I do have a son age 19 on Concerta and it works for him so I am not anti meds or anything. I'd just rather deal with the adhd and not mania. I have the hyperactive impulsive type adhd.

I'm very glad this group was started.

I'm so glad you both found your way to this group. Amber, I hope you got my email. JavaFirst, I'm curious, how were you diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and how were you diagnosed with ADHD? There are lots of people diagnosed with both - the diagnosing process can be very challenging. And, there can be treatment for both conditions at the same time - and not just with medications.

I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago with bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed by my pdoc after a very long intake by a therapist and a very bad over reaction to my son involving the police etc. My pdoc (psychiatrist) and I talked before he put me on meds. I was put on abilify and it worked right from the start.

I was diagnosed with adhd by a PhD (a PhD does all my pdocs testing).
I do see a therapist for cbt and have done some EMDR as well. What kind of treatments are you talking about for both conditions at the same time and did I answer your questions thoroughly enough? I like my therapist he also is adhd and knows how it is.

hey everyone! I'm also new :) I was diagnosed with ADD when I was about 11ish. Just recently my psychiatrist diagnosed me with psyclothymia although i havent been able to find a whole lot about it on the internet she told me that its basically minor bipolar where i dont have the extreme mania and the periods of feeling good or bad switch more rapidly. I'm looking for more info on psyclothymia and help managing my ADD ( yes after so many years i still cant seem to manage the damn thing!! ( of course ive had periods where im fine)

New to this group. Am 61 yo. Joined DS about 6 months ago when my husband died, after being bedridden for over 3 years (I was his only caregiver - had no help). Was diagnosed with ADD in my early 50's.

Joined the DS AD/HD site 6 months ago, but never found it to be much help. Looking for adults to share with... Interested in how others stay focused, medications, and would like ppl to "vent" with, too! LOL

HI IM NEW 2 THIS GROUP

Hi I am new to this group also i joined ds adhd/add site but didnt find it to be helpful at all. Im 40yrs old have 3 beautiful girls 22,21,and 19. A beautiful 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter and 1 1 month old grandson and another grandson coming.. Married for 18 years. I have adhd and my oldest has add and a learning disabilty and my youngest adhd/odd. Hope to find what im looking for on this site. Connie
