Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.
We took custody of my son when he was almost 4 out the foster care system. Took almost 2 1/2 years for our adoption to be final. Several things I told him: 1) You did nothing wrong. This was all about "them" not being able to properly take care of you. They were not taught, not prepared, and in my son's case, were drug addicts and alcoholics and suffered from depression. I wanted to make sure that he never blamed himself for their mistakes. 2) I was honest with him from day one. I told myself I would never lie, although I had to be very tactful/careful what I told him and how due to age factor.
Just keep doing what you are doing and keep loving her. Trust me, not now, not in the near future, but she will figure it all out on her own. When she does, she will be very upset and disappointed and you again will have to help her out.
Good luck!
It's not enough to love her and raise her; I also have to pick up the pieces whenever her parents let her down. This has been my logic, and though it's been kind of miserable at times, being validated by people who have lived this makes it easier for me to accept.
I would strongly suggest counseling for you and your young daughter. I'm sure there are child therapists that can help you all cope with this.
Also, If Lisa is a detrimental influence, I would consider cutting her off. I know this sounds harsh, but think about your young daughter; what damage is Lisa causing everytime she decides to flit in and play mommy? All the heartache she's causing to you and the child.
Seek counseling and help. It sounds like Lisa's presence is doing more harm than good. What your young daughter needs most, and you already know this I'm sure, is stability and consistency. Lisa cannot help or mother anyone until she learns to be an adult. Sometimes tough love is the only way they learn this.
I will keep you in my prayers.
