Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

Hello all. I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm in a same-sex marriage. My husband and I have been married for almost four years now and we're very interested in expanding our family through adoption, but we're not sure how we want to get there.
I'd prefer to adopt from the foster care system, but my husband is concerned that an older child won't have the same bond as a younger child. We're both concerned about our ability to emotionally handle the process of having children placed with us and then returned to their parents.
He'd prefer we adopt a baby. My major concern with this route is the costs associated with adoption. We don't really have any savings built up for this yet and we know that we'll need to come out of the adoption expenses with a reasonable emergency fund as well. We're focusing now on paying down our debts and building our savings so we'll be in a position to take this route if we decide to go this way.
I look forward to hearing from you, learning from your experiences and maybe sharing some of our own experiences as we get further down the path. Thanks for being here!
