Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.
We were foster parents a few years back and started by providing foster care for the county where we lived. We were emergency foster care parents which meant they were all short-term, unadoptable children. We did this to minister to children who were in situations through no fault of their own, also to help other Foster Parents have vacations, and provide emergency care when a child(ren) needed to be pulled from a situation in an emergency.
There is always the chance of attachment to these children, but we knew going in that all the sweet little ones that we fostered where not adoptable, which made it a little easier when they either went home or into other foster homes. It was difficult at times to let go, but we knew they needed a more permanent, stable home life.
My husband and I relied heavily on our research and others who had fostered and adopted. We learned to pray together and make all our decisions with the help of God. We felt He knew what was best for us, so we definitely wanted Him guiding us. In time, everything worked just as we had prayed for, we provided foster care to many children, then adopted a 3 week old little boy that was definitely a blessing from God.
You sound like you have thought a lot about this, and already have some great insight and questions. You are definitely headed in the right direction. I wish you the very best!
It has just been something in the last few months that I think I would be okay with but still working through. My husband is huge on getting all the facts and research which is a good thing, I like those things too but tend to leap before I learn sometimes so glad he is helping me get better at learning all I can before I make a decision.
I have been praying about it and will continue to pray about it to make the best decision. I give foster families a huge amount of credit, I do not think I could foster especially be an emergency foster so I praise you for doing that. Maybe some day that will change but just like the adoption process, things take time to get to being comfortable doing.
Thanks everyone for the advice and it gives me some things to think about for sure.
