Would love to meet other parents with children who have adhd or add! I would love to have others to talk to, who understand what we go through on daily basis!

My name is Alarna and I am married to Stephen and have two children a son Liam who is 9 coming 10 next Jan, and a daughter who is 5 in Oct 2012. We have been living in Australia for 6months now and love it. My son has ADHD and has been diagnosed since he was 5years old. Although I suspected around 3years of age he was larger than life with his behaviour. I also believe after 13years of being with my husband that he is a Adult undiagnosed with ADHD. My daughter is a challenge so I am not certain if I will again be surprised if she also has the same condition, but I am not completely convinced as I have no way of comparing. Life is very busy and a constant challenge keeping everyone organised. I am finding that school seems to be a big challenge for Liam at the moment he struggles socially and seems to have slipped somewhat with the academic side of things. I feel like I am constanly talking to his teacher or more to the point talking at him. I am very upset as the teacher seems to have little understanding an does not seem prepared to put in extra time for him. If anyone has any advice or can suggest any schools that may better help my son with ADHD to function at his best i would appreciate any help. I feel very alone sometimes trying to juggle a job, house, x2 children, a husband also with the same issues, school and the structure that is required to function in our home! Thanks tired Mum of 2 or is that 3! LOL

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
First off, you are NOT alone! My 6yr old son has been recently diagnosed with ADHD and its been a struggle trying to maintain a balance with everything else. Like you, I find myself running a little thin at times, almost at the brink of breaking down. But what keeps me from doing so, is the sheer fact that "WE", as the mother and wife, MUST remain level and reinforce the structure, requirements and necessities of a balanced household. It's tough, we both admit.
As for school, for the past 1.5yrs, my son has struggled with behavior. I can relate to your frustrations when you pick-up the phone and it's the school and/or teacher calling to notify you of your child's unacceptable behavior(s). I've found myself running in circles trying to find the answers and/or strategies to why/how/what I can do to help alleviate all of it. But honestly, a child with ADHD is unique and cannot be compared to any other child; therefore, many teachers are found unable to accommodate their need of extra attention, may it be due to a large class size and/or the lack of knowledge on how to enforce an intervention program. As for me, I began to realize that it wasn't that my son was failing in his academics, but the learning techniques and strategies that were not as useful to him due to his unique way of learning and comprehending the material. And like I mentioned earlier, not all teaching techniques/strategies can be equally applied to all children, especially like our sons who endure the struggles of ADHD. On this note, I would ask if his school is capable of creating an intervention program. This will not only reveal the issues that he may have in certain academic areas, but it will allow them to create an appropriate academic structure based upon it. With this, it will allow him to strengthen his weaker areas and excel in others!
And before I go, I want you to know that it is not your son that is failing....it is those that should be there that embed him with knowledge and the equal opportunity to succeed that are! There is no reason that any child should be left behind and/or neglected in regards to their academic excellence. No child learns the same way as another and because of this, expectations of a child can be generally applied without accepting this fact. You'd be surprised what an ADHD child will reveal to you, if only given the right resources and "want" to aid them in doing so!
God Bless,
