The earlier your child gets help and assessed the better off his life will be. many as they get older and the brain matures do much better.
There is a stigma around mental health issues for sure. You are not alone with the lack of support. Just do what you know is the right thing to do for yourself and your son. It is too bad some people feel there is no such thing. Attitudes are getting better I find. Educating yourself helps a lot I think.
ADHD and mental health are real issues. They can look at the brain now and see the characteristics of an ADHD brain. ADHD usually runs in the family.
Make sure you get a lot of support from the school. You will have to advocate for him a lot until he can for himself.
