I have a 6 year old son who was diagnosed with ADHD last month. For the past few years we have been struggling with him listening, especially to myself (mother) or anyone who is authoritive to him. Almost 2 years ago now my son has had to share a room and be around my fiancees son who is also 6, he is complete opposite of ADHD so it is hard for him to be patient with my son all the time. Also, last May I gave birth to twin boys, so these are all things he has had to ajust to. Other issues we are struggling with him is he is jealous most of the time mainly just if anyone else has my attention other than him. For instance if the other 6 year old picks me flowers and my son is jealous and tries to belittle what he did for me. Another example is if I have to do anything with the twins he has to constantly try to get my attention in some way. Also if I am speaking with my fiancee he constantly intrudes on the conversation, just fighting for my attention. There have been a few major events that have happened since the twins were born. The first is before the twins were born we constantly warned my son to keep his legos in his room when he wanted to play with them. Just so he would get used to it so when they started to crawl they wouldnt be able to choke on a tiny lego. Then when one of the babies came home from the hospital we find one of his tiny legos planted in his crib. He agreed he did it, just couldn't ever tell me why. Another thing just happened, now with the other twin, we told him they could choke on cherios and this morning he spilled a baggie of them in his seat that he was in. I am not sure if this is jealousy and he is trying to hurt them. I am just scared and I don't know what to do. We are currently going to child therapy and he is seeing a nurse practisioner and she has diagnosed him with ADHD. I am just trying to think of everything to do and that could possibly be wrong with him. I am just looking to see if anyone else has been in the same boat as I have. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

As Im sure youre time is already stretched super thin, is there a way to spend time each day, with your attention focused mainly on him? Doing an activity he likes? Maybe the legos? Maybe use legos in a behavior based reward system? I did that with our son and its helped. You can find super cheap fake lego minifigures on ebay. He'd never know the difference.
