My Daughter is 8 and was just diagnosed with ADD in the spring. My husband, like yours, refused to discuss it or put her on meds. It was a rough time in our marriage because I felt like he was making me choose between him and the well being of our Daughter. I finally got him to agree to trying the meds (Biphentin 20 mg) for a month to see what happens. The results were amazing. She jumped 7 levels in reading and was doing so well in the other area of school as well.
Because she wasnt diagnosed until the end of grade two she is now having to catch up with the rest of the kids because she was so far behind. If you think your son has him, please discuss it with his Dr. now so that he can learn with the rest of his class and wont fall behind. the longer you wait, the further behind he will be.

Your son sounds like my son at 4:0) He is almost 6 now and we are just now finally facing the fact that he has ADHD. We have him 10 mg a day of Ritalin and he has been on the meds for a weeks now. We are noticing some minor improvments already and we hope he'll improve even more. When he went into grade one - it was such a shock to him despite having been in preschool and kindergarten. He did well socially in SK so we were hoping we were mistaken and that he just needed time to mature a bit more. His self esteam is suffering now and I wish we had acted sooner. I don't really see any benefit to waiting to see a doctor, I wish we had done that while he was still in SK. My husband refuses to take my son to a naturalpathic doctor he thinks that's all a waste time - I would like to go to see what they suggest.
Good luck to you - you sound like just the kind of mom your son needs, patient and supportive. You are his biggest advocate.
something hit me while I was reading your post when you mentioned about thinking your son just needed to mature more. I have been saying that about my daughter for a long time and i never made the connection. It was almost like a light bulb went off. Emily is a great kid, but she is not as mature as most of the kids her age.
