I am ADD and ive been suffering from depression and anxiety attacks for almost my whole life... anybody else have this same prob with ADD?? and also i am on lamictal for my moods and effexor xr and zoloft for my anxiety and depression and trazodone for sleep and i am also hypothyroid and take synthroid.. i jus feel like i cant think, lots of anxiety, i cant focus on anything or anyone and i am very very irritable.. my mind feels like i just cant think straight and its makeing me depressed and givn me anxiety...i havnt started a ADD med yet but im fixn to and was wantn to know if anybody can relate to my symptoms and can ADD cause the anxiety and depression ive been suffering wth all these yrs?? and whats the easiest med to try, im sensive to meds.. thanks guys

I can't help with that question by much, but what I can say is that adderall created some serious side effects in my son including off the scales anxiety. He had OCD, but once he quit the meds - that went away. He now takes On Task Vitamins. It's for children, but the combination of magnesium, zinc, B6, C and E is what makes it effective. It takes about 6 - 8 weeks to begin working, but in time the attention will get better. Have you tried talking to a clinical nutritionist at a nutritional supplement store? Or even better, you might look up a Naturopath to see if they have anything that you might benefit from. Also, you can have your bloodwork done to see if you are having any vitamin deficiencies. There are lots of paths to take to help besides the prescriptions. Sometimes it takes getting to the bottom of the problem to truly cure what ails you. I hope things get better for you soon!

I don't know if ADD CAUSES the anxiety and depression...but I think they often happen together. So maybe it does. I definitely have ADD and Anxiety and Depression. So I understand. I know that thyroid problems can cause anxiety too. ADD meds can definitely help, but I'd be careful. Talk to your doctor thoroughly about EVERYTHING you're on. Stimulant meds can sometimes increase anxiety. I don't know if they may interact with your thyroid meds or not.

I can totally relate.
How long have you been taking lamictal?
Did you just start taking these medications you listed or have you been on meds for a few months or more?

Also, do you work, and if so, is it a job that is suited to your gifts and strengths? Can you work around other people, or do you work better alone?

i dont work, ive been on lamictal for a yr 75mg x3 ..im am so flippn tired of deakn with this crap. i cant think straight, anxiety, confused, angry, depressed...idk what else to do...jus feel like giving up! sorry not yelling at you all, im just so tired..

Don't give up! Help is definitely available. I know that I've found that ADD, depression and anxiety all tend to go hand in hand, at least for me. I've tried a few medicines and love Vyvanse for my ADD. Both of my girls take it also. My son takes Adderall and has had success with it. Over time we've been able to lower our doses of anti-depression and anxiety medicines by keeping our ADD in check. I can't say that is how it will work for everyone, but that is how it has worked for us. I'm also a strong believer in maintaining a healthy level of vitamins, iron, etc. so it is very important to have your levels checked and to take any supplements that you are lacking.
