My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and the doctor said he shows signs of Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I see a little bit of the behavior in him but not much. He does get easily angered and if you do something he doesnt like he will hit you or try to claw you. He wasnt really that bad with all of his symptoms before going to the doctor and being diagnosed. His behavior has been aweful since that doctors appoinment. I have explained to him that even though he has ADHD it doesnt excuse him to behave like he is. He just doesnt seem to get it. We go to meet with a therapist at a behavioral/adolecent center on october 8th. I cannot wait to get help and get some answers. Anyone with any advice I would appreciate it. I feel like things have just spiraled out of control since his diagnoses.

Sounds like your son received Too Much Information--TMI--Have you started looking at sites like empoweringparents.com? The site has been very helpful for us, in dealing with our multiple disorder/ODD child. Our biggest problem is getting through the language/communication barrier. We get results when we 1) ignore him or turn our backs to him 2) take his playtime priv's away. Check out some of the advice on empowering parents.com I think it will help you.

@ Sowle I agree, I think he recieved TMI and just doesnt know what to do with it all. Thanks for saying that I kind of thought that but wasnt sure. Thanks for the website too :)

He prob did recieve TMI. My son is very suggestable. If he hears something he will do it or repeat or anything. When discussing his symptoms or changes or even side effects meds might have i either talk in code or not have him in the room. Hopefully things go well

@ asmith1977 he doesnt have alot of friends. He will talk to anyone but when he starts acting like he does kids dont know what to think about him i guess. Its hard to explain in text. He just says weird off the wall stuff and is immature but smart for his age.
@ skc0806 my son is the same way. The day we had that doctor appt and he heard TMI he came home and was acting awful and my husband was trying to talk to him and he said but dad I cant help it I have that dhd thing meaning ADHD. Hes really smart for his age but also immature and just acts goofy sometimes

My son is the same. He listened in on adult conversation between my sister and I and now. It's all bad. I don't have any advice because i have the same problem. But I wanted you to know u r not alone.

My lil guy doesn't have many friends either... it breaks my heart to see him trying to be friendly and the other kids making fun of him... I would love to explain to them that he is just 'wired' differently... but my husband thinks that would do more harm than good... I hope all works out for you!

To summerjones: unfortunately i thinkyour husband maybe right. Some times the kids will use it to tease more. Sad but true. My son has gotten picked on for having it. Thankfully his one good friend stood up for him.
To brook: yeah my son tried that trick with me. He had a bad day doing things that i can tell was not symtoms. When scolded he looked at me and said "i tried. But my adhd made me" i almost laughed. I told him he cant try that excuse because i have adhd with no meds so if i can do it then he can do it especially with meds. He hasnt used that excuse but still is very suggestable. Frustrating.
