It has been a rough summer. I'm back to experiencing some confusion; being unable to multi-task, and my tolerance for whatever I deem to be BS has evaporated. My doctor thinks that either a) my body is adjusting to the 20 mg. of d-amphetamine I take 3 x daily, or b) other stuff is going on in my life (yeah, but nothing new). He wanted to try me on 30 mg. 3 x daily.
But my prescription drug provider says I have reached the maximum dosage that can be prescribed for my particular plan. OR, I can pay >$200 out of pocket for the whole 90 pills @30 mg. The provider will not entertain an appeal from my doctor.
My question: Is anyone with presenting symptoms similar to mine taking a non-amphetamine medication in addition to amphetamine as part of a treatment for adult ADD? I plan to ask my doctor on the next visit. But I am so bummed out by Big Pharma and their profiteering and the ease with which they override doctors' orders for profit's sake that I had to post this as part of dealing with my anger.

My ADHD specialist has mentioned trying a non-stimulant in addition to the concerta but that will be something we will discuss on my next visit as I have only just been put on the increased dosage. Situation will be reviewed in about 6 weeks from now. I forget the name of the suggested medication but she told me that it was initially designed as an anti depressant which after further trials were held, emerged as an effective treatment for ADHD sufferers. I find this hard to believe though as the most effective treatment I have tried to date have all been various amphetamine based substances. I tried citalopram once a few years back for depression and it did sweet fa. I have little faith in these types of meds. If anything, I think the best I could hope for with non-stimulant treatments would be a total placebo.

I have since climbed down from my tree, so that I can now compartmentalize my anger at the drug provider. They still suck, mind you. But I don't need to allow them to add to my issues because their refusal to allow an extra pill or two to cut into their profits (this time) is not life-threatening.
It's important to hear that people who responded are not (or not yet) involved with multiple medications. My 20 mg. of amphetamine 3x daily is my only medication. I have always exercised and eaten right.
Maybe I'm just being a cranky old geezer. If my tolerance for amphetamine is increasing, I'll just have to resort to mind over matter or rotate to a different drug. But I don't think that I need to do anything yet, based on what I've heard here.
