Hi everyone-I was diagnosed with a brain injury I sustained when I fell in my basement. I have problems with balance, memory, concentration, etc.Since it has been 3 months since the fall, they are thinking that these problems might be more long term. So the neuro. is having me try using adderall xr to see if it might help me with some of these problems-it may, or may not. This week I started on 5mg adderal xr each morning, for a week. If I tolerate that, and if it doesn't seem to be doing anything, I am to take 2 pills (10mg) each morning, and then see her in a month. So far, the first 2 days I've taken it, I haven't notices any difference in my thinking, etc. How long does it take to notice that it is helping you? I really hope this will work-I'm unemployed-lost my job a year ago. and going to interviews the way my brain is working right now is not working out very well. There are several possible side effects, but the one I would be most concerned about is the possibility of raising your blood pressure. I don't know if you suffer with HBP already, but this is something that needs to be monitored on a regular basis.
Of course, Adderall is also a controlled substance, and if abused, can be addictive. Generally, if you use the meds the way they are prescribed, and your body really needs this type of med, then you should be fine.
