Hey everybody, I'm Megan, and I'm new on the boards. I have ADD, and I just wanted to share a story and vent to you guys. People are way too nosy when they hear about my ADD. My chorus teacher first of all crossed the line by very rudely insinuating that I had ban attention problem. When I stood up and informed him that I did, indeed, have an attention problem, instead of feelnig sheepish and backing off like any other normal person would, he proceeded to question me about which medications I'm taking, and even went so far as to suggest they weren't working!!! Now am I being overly sensitive or do some people just have to realize that they are not doctors and that if they don't have anything kind to say than not to say it at all?
However, if your teacher did say that in front of the whole class it was very unprofessional of him. I'd talk to the principal about that teacher. Don't pass your judgment just tell the principal what the teacher did/said and how you felt about it. Also, your teacher has no place suggesting your medications aren't working.
It isn't anyone else in the classes' business that you have ADD and it isn't your teacher's place to inform them.
Sorry to see you experienced such ignorance and bad manners from a teacher. Hate to say this,but I will not be open about my ADHD in the general community. There appears to be very negative and ignorant perceptions out there about ADD/ADHD. Can't believe that teacher asked about you're medication, you must have felt so humiliated.

I had to fight against people like that for my son. I live in the UK and it was not even heard of by drs here at the time (14yrs) ago, there are still many ignorant people who do not believe it even exists. Just to encourage you, my son is 21 now and doing well. I have ADD, my son got it from me so I understand. Yours has been diagnosed early enough that you will learn to overcome and what I read on your profile makes me think that you are a survivor. People who don't understand are the ones with the problem, look at it like that and you'll do great.
