I have several med issues and take a whole lot of pills every day, and on my really bad days, it can double. I try talking to my 11 yr old cousion about this when he wont take his meds. It doesn't work. Sometimes he has outburts and it gets really bad. Sometimes, like yesterday, his mom, grandma, and me give up! We can't take it! We are all struggling money wise and mentaly and the kid just doesn't understand! So he we tried a day without meds, he did it once not that long ago-but yesterday was a DISATERx10!!

We trick him with one capsule that we can hid in food, but the trilipator isn't a powder. We try to talk to him, be calm, but my the afternoon we all want to mummfiy him with duct tape!

I am new to this scene, as I just moved here. To make things worse Grandpa hates the kids, he thinks teenagers should act like him, there is an older 13 yr old brother of his and a 13 yr old niece. I have had less sleep than them and with it being a holiday we are stuck indoors again! and will be trying to watch movies. I have to go to work tomorrow, and get some work done today.

WHAT CAN I DO??????????

I have no idea, ask the doc, but don't put I strongly suggest you don't put meds in his food for too many reasons to mention, try cognitive therapy for him also and get advice from the doctor ASAP, please!

its not right to try and pressure a child into that sort of thing. the only thing you can do is express your concern for why he should take the meds... just talk with him, and if he totally refuses, theres a million other things you can do, so don't worry!

I think it may be time to talk to the child's dr about this and involve the kid in the discussion and ultimate decision about taking the meds. My son is 11 and has never refused to take his meds and I think it may be because we tell what he is taking and why. One day a few months ago he asked to not take his meds on a weekend day and we agreed. It was a rough day to say the least and the next day he asked to take his meds saying he did not like feeling out of control like he had the day before. It may be that this child you are talking about is on the wrong med. I believe a med should make you feel better not worse. Has anyone asked him why he does not want to take the med(s)? Just a thought.

I have the same issue. It took me, his stepdad, his bio dad, and two teachers plus his doctor and counselor to explain that he doesn't do well in school or with other people when he doesn't take his meds. We showed him his actual lessons and HE noticed a difference. Now, he makes sure I know he's taken his meds. Treat him like you would a younger adult. It helps. Stay calm, he's trying to push your buttons and limits. It works.

try asking him why he dosn't want to take his pills if the reason is tast try putting them in jelly or apple sause.
you could also try to give him arward for taking his pills a day out were he wants to go mcd's just some thing he really likes also try putting up a clander an giving stars or smile face sticker on the days he takes his pills

My reply to you is just please have some patience, believe me I know it is difficult. Talk to him about why he should take his medication. Also someting that I tried with my son when he was going thru that is to let him know that so many people in this world that need meds for different reasons. Another suggestion is for you to get him involed in a support group where he can meet other children with the same condition. That made a difference for my son and now he has no trouble with taking his meds.I hope that this may help you.

MY SON, 9 REFUSED HIS MEDS FOR MONTHS BEFORE I COULD GET HIM TO TAKE THEM. YOU NEED TO WORK WITH A THERAPIST OR JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE UNTIL THEY DECIDE. MINE HAS COME AROUND NOW AND TAKES NEW MEDS WITH NO PROBLEM.

Is he going to school? Is there a school psychologist? Have you presented this to to school professionals to ask for a meeting,observations, an IEP, or a special program for him? Is there someone at school that can give him his meds during the day so he makes it a part of his school routine? I taught spe. needs students and this is not uncommon. He does not have much control in his life, but he can control his med intake. Reach out for their help first, they can be a wonderful resource. Let me know.
