I have an ADHD family member, 11 yr old boy, whom I have written about before. For the past six weeks he has been having mood swings. His mother is finally getting into a doc this week. He had me real worried though. I thought it might be his meds, as he doesnt want to take them. But last night he had another swing and was rude to me, my house and wanted to die. He even wrote that he thought his life was worthless. He had a lot of anger towards me and during bedtime prayer he hit me hard across the face. He did go to bed without a sleeping pill at 11:30, early for him not being in school. This morning he was fine and happy. His aunt and I were thinking depression, but Ive had depression. I dont remember wanting to die one moment and being happy the next, dont you stay depressed?
His step dad is abusing him and he is having trouble knowing who to trust, I have only been in his life six months, the step father 8 years. He knows I love him, but the step father lies about me. Now his mother is trying to recruit him to steal some family papers from me. What a mess. I know it is complicated, but is it ADHD, life or depression? Any advice?

Depression can be a co-exisisting disorder with adhd but life is not adhd. the boy you are talking about could have a mood disorder as well, as anxiety or ODD or Bi-Polar. Mom will have to have him see a child psychologist or neuropyscologist to assess him properly and then he must take the meds provided after the psychiatrist sees him. that is your best bet and it is nice that you want to help.

You now this kid is probally really brite. With all that is going on in his life it may be wise just to ask him what his believfes are about life . Hows things make him feel , when someone trys to make him go against his believes. This is a critticall stage and by just giving the kid a complex will only confuse matters more ( not you but the people asking him to be a spy or what ever). Patients is the key to understanding not blind faith. We with ADHD have a need to know and a good understanding of life , he may be easly confussed at times but with the right support as it sounds like your doing I'll bet he will be OK . Don't forget to take a break from it all , don't get to tangled up in the choas.

maybe he is bipolar. i say this because i have been bipolar since childhood. i also have adhd, and depression. at that age ,i can remember being very moody and irritable. all i prayed for every nite was to die in my sleep because i didnt understand my emotions. we had family problems, and that just made it worse. maybe seeing a dr. will help. do you have him in counseling? it really helps make some sense of things.

sounds like it could be bipolar becase bipolar does tend to come out closer to your teen years i know i got diagnosed as bipolar and adhd at 1 and i thought about death for a long time and i was very angry too getting in trouble at school and getting suspended at least once or twice a month the first thing i would suggest is to call the cops on the step father and get him out of the house to see if the environment he is living in is what is causing all the emotions first
