Addison's Disease Support Group
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It is estimated that it affects about 1 to 2 in 100,000 people. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone
As for that awful sweating your having, people who have talked to their doctors don't know why we go through this. I had it for about 10 years, my hair would just start dripping sweat sometimes at work. I just wanted to shower right then. It started out of nowhere and stopped when I went on disability and could control how active I am. No good answers for you there. Sorry.
Also Last Tuesday I had a Adrenal Crisis it was different and I didn't readily understand what was happening, My wife and I painted the porch and I got wore out sat down and felt strange and slowly started shaking like when I get Hypoglycemic which I've dealt with all my life. I took orange juice with sugar and didn't effect it, drank some more I continue to crash. I ate some protein drank water still crashed. I fell asleep and wore up with headache and still feeling bad but not shaking took my HC. It took five day to get back to my normal.
Dose that sound like a AC?
This is where you need to learn what your body wants from you. You have two conditions and need to figure out which one you need to treat. I went through this being dxd with thyroid and Addison at the same time. It took about a year to really begin to know if I was having problems from one condition or the other, or both. It does get easier with time and practice.
Take it easy on the physical stuff until you really start to feel better. I agree, the sweating was gross.
Doctors don't really prepare you for all this!
I keep a journal for things like what happened to you so that when I'm at the doctor for my regular appt I can ask what he wants me to do in the future. I see the endo every 3 months after I've done labs. We go over all my physical problems, he looks at my labs and we figure out how to treat for the next 3 months.
You might want to look up the NADF site. It's the national Addison's site. They have a lot of info. There might be something about the low blood sugar, steroids, etc. Education will make this easier eventually.
