Sore throat with secondary adrenal insiffisancy

Hi all
I woke up this morning with a sore throat so I called and got an appointment with my ent and I also am dealing with a UTI which they gave me nitrofurantoin without even doing a culture just called it in but I did ask the pharmacy would it be safe with the adrenal problem and he said yes and it should work for any UTI. I hate antibotics I usually always get a yeast infection so I'm thinking about stoping these before that happens I'm feeling better with the UTI but I guess what I'm concerned with is when I go to the ent tomorrow what can he really do for me unless its strep they usualy give me a steroid shot but not sure that's a good idea because I'm already on hydro. Also I use a nasal spray because I had a sinus infection right before I got diagnosed with the SAI so if its alergies I'm probably wasting my time. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would keep my appt with the ent. Having Addison's and possibly two infections it is better to see the doctor and find out its allergies to be safe.

Are you stress dosing? This is definitely the time if your not feeling well for a few days to up your dose.

No Lynn I have not dosed up I'm not really sure how or when I should I'm so new at this, but I have a a bad day. That was one of my questions to ask my ENDO Monday when I go back for all my test results that I'm waiting on, MRI and complete pituitary blood work up. I'm going to go to the ENT tomorrow just to be sure and the UTI symptoms are gone so I think I will take one more dose of the antibiotics they gave me and hopefully that will be enough.

When I stress dose I add anywhere from 10 mg to double my daily dose. Most days just the 10 mg is enough to get me through a UTI or a strep infection. Also upping your salt intake too. Good luck next week at the doctors.

It is not a great idea to stop antibiotics once your symptoms clear up. First, it can help promote the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Second, the symptoms of a UTI can sometimes go away, but the infection does not. The infection can continue up the urinary tract, eventually settling in your kidneys. Pyelonephritis is a much thornier infection to treat than one lower down in the urinary tract. Before arbitrarily stopping treatment, I would check with the doc who prescribed it. I assume you have a long history of UTIs and know what your symptoms are. I did too, and they were followed by and interspersed with long bouts of pyelo, some of which landed me in the hospital. It was well before I knew I had AD. In fact, it probably delayed the diagnosis, because i misattributed the adrenal pain to kidney pain and most of the symptoms to pyelo. I also had frequent sinus infections. All of it was attributed to my being an overworked woman and busy mother.

I hope you feel better soon and get some answers to your health-related questions. I know how overwhelming it can be to have constant visits to the doctor for one thing after another. It is enough to have to handle AD.
