Addison's Disease Support Group
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It is estimated that it affects about 1 to 2 in 100,000 people. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone
I sure feel isolated. This is a rare disease. Make sure while you are home to sleep when ever you need to. Keep hydrated with gatorade or pediatric electrolyte has less sugar, for your electrolyte. This important with Addision's.
A lot of people will give great advice here. Just ask good luck. Welcome to our little community. Write me anytime.

I was diagnosed with Addison one year ago and had my first real Addisonian crisis on Sunday. I am doing fine now but it was another learning experience in Addison for me.
Take your meds without fail, keep salt with you at all times and have a HC injector in case of emergency. Stress dose when needed, eat well, exercise whenever you can within your limits and try to keep a positive attitude these all help.

I am sorry to hear of your problems. It is a horrible thing to have to adjust to life with no cortisol. I don't think the doctors understand it much at all because they always say you can have a normal life just taking your pills every day. I have yet to meet anyone with Addison's that felt they had a normal life. That being said, there are many of us that continue to work and function in the world. I work full time, as do many folk here, and some even continue to pursue athletic pursuits. But, you have to get to know your body, how much steroid you need to take and when. The fatigue is never ending for me, a constant ongoing battle, but if I conserve my energy and use it for what is important, such as my job, I can get through. I don't have enough energy to pursue a lot of active things like I used to. I tend to sleep away my days off. But, I function. It takes some experimentation with your steroids - whether hydrocortisone or something like prednisone works best for you, how much florinef you need, whether you need to take your steroids twice a day, or more. How much you need to take extra when you are stressed, or working out hard. You have to try to learn as much as you can about the disease, and then try to learn as much as you can about how your body responds. It is very possible to get to feeling well enough to work again. I hope you can find your way through to feeling better. I'm sorry you had to have your adrenals removed. That is a bummer. Good luck to you.

When I was first diagnosed last year I read about just taking your pill and continue on. I haven't found that it is that easy.
I do get exhausted and don't have the drive I did before, but I have been learning to live with it and also quit my job as my brain fog cost me money in the end to work to fix mistakes... Long story-Lol
I am looking for a part-time job to have some income, my husband is starting to be supportive but took a while for that. Good luck and be positive.
It won't go away but we can live with it's ups and downs....
PS: Always keep yourself hydrated and yes to the gatorade! I always keep bottled water and gatorade stocked in our fridge.
