Addison's Disease Support Group
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It is estimated that it affects about 1 to 2 in 100,000 people. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone
Sometimes I feel like Rosanne Roseannadanna of SNL " It's ALWAYS something!"
good luck with all of this
I have been engaging in a habit I normally don't do, ever since my high heel trauma - watching tv. I'm not happy with my tv 'thing' but my point: Joy Behr said she had an ectopic pregnancy & her pain was isolated to her shoulders. It does seem odd, but hormonal involvement is definitely associated with joint pain. Hormonal craziness, esplly low cortisol = inflammation.
Just a thought, but I believe symptomology is quite similar, regardless of whether AD is Primary (autoimmune), Secondary, Idiopathic...
Hey Roseannadana, aka Camckinnon,
You're too funny..smiles are always appreciated, so thanks! I hope your clavicle is better?
PS-Cherry juice (not from concentrate) is a GREAT anti inflammatory.
My understanding in talking with my Endo and reading about Addison's is that joint and muscle pain is part of the disease. It will affect everyone differently and I suspect age, health, length of being on steroids, and such all affect the severity of it and so on.
Good luck Darla!
Why did your holistic take you off fish oil? I know about the possibility of mercury contamination, dyes, etc., but there are safe supplements. I'm curious, since it did help you.
My pain is chronic: disc herniations, lumbar hemangioma, muscle spasms, stress fracture...the whole package. Maybe I've become accustomed to the pain & accept it as is? I just don't know. Sometimes I use a heating pad, which helps to loosen things up, before I exercise. At times, I separate my mind from my body & just go...sounds odd, I know :)
It's a vicious cycle...exercise helps tremendously, but it hurts just to get moving. Every little bit helps, however little it may be.
