I get hypoglycemic also. I haven't really been able to relate it to the dose of steroid I'm taking. I think my metabolism is all screwed up with the absence of real cortisol. Every time I eat, I sweat. My glucose level is all over the place. Sometimes I just suddenly get nauseous, sweaty, dizzy. Its very strange. Doc says its all related to the lack of cortisol, overcompensation with adrenalin, and who knows what else my body gets up to. He's not much help. Anyway, I hope you can figure yours out.

I have found that eating 6-8 small meals through out the day that are pretty balanced with equal carb/protein/fat ratio I seem to do pretty good. I did have hypoglycemic episodes when first diagnosed but so far so good.

Hey Kristen thanks for info. Iv e been hypogycemic for 16 years. So Im sure my adrenals been struggling for alittle while, but not to this severity. I really havnt had that much trouble by eating often like you said especially protein. its just been effecting me this week. Im now taking 25mg of Cortef. I really think it has something to do with it. No weight loss yet. That stinks.Thanks again for your input.Darla

I have the same type of symptoms...light headed, shakey, nauseous. My endo told me that hypoglycemia is actually pretty rare. He said the only way to know is to have a blood test while I was experiencing these syptoms. So I did...as it turns out my glucose levels were fine, but my sodium levels were very low, thus the shakiness. As a result, I still eat several small meals a day to keep my sodium levels up. I also increased Florinef from every other day to every day.

I definitely agree with Mary Anne. Reducing, or eliminating simple carbs, while increasing protein is the best way to combat hypoglycemia. Although I am no longer clinically hypoglycemic, I certainly have been there, an awful feeling. When my blood sugar plummeted, a spoonful of peanut butter really helped. I may have some sort of mild carb intolerance, so I always start my day with pure protein & still do my 'peanut butter dip' in between meals. Gotta maintain that positive nitrogen balance!!

I appreciate the info. I have to eat like your saying and have for 16 years because I have had this problem for that long, but it started up again aas I decreased the Cortef so It makes me wonder if that has something to do with it. Thanks for all the input though. It always something it would be nice to have a normal day!!!!! Oh well it will eventually come I hope and pray. I don't know if the 'fight' continues, in all aspects, but I do have a mind/body war at times. My mind says "Go" & my body says, "No"...very frustrating. I am defintely better, more healthy and much more determined, as compared to when first became ill. It did take painstaking time, dedication and quality medical care....a knowledgeable MD.

I have faith you will improve, but you definitely need answers & appropriate treatment.

I know I feel a lot better when I take my protein drink first thing in the morning than anything else. It really helps.

Thanks I usually eat protein bar in am and it usually does the trick but lately not helping Il keep working on it might be hormone imbalance too. Thanks Lunarphase sounds like you had a rough road and then got better. How long did it take? How long have you had this? Darla

Hi, since I did lower my dose to 25mg(from 35), my insulin dose, as I am also a type 1 diabetic, has dropped a bit also.

I don't know why no one has tested me for hypoglycemia but in my head, the chronic nausea every single day that i have, couldn't that explain it?

Hi KristenKS. Well I know I was nausated before I got put on Cortef then it went away. So How much Cortef do you take?? You might need alittle more. When your bloodsugar drpos you can get nausated so its possible, but if your nausated all the time time that concerns me. You could possibly change your diet alittle first and see if that helps. Myabe you do this already but if not try to eat more protein every 3-4 hours. I like to eat protein bars for breakfast(it works better for me then the shakes for some reason). Just be careful when you buy any some have lots of sugar(you dont want that) get one with low sugar. Are you could eat eggs or turkey sausage(something like that) If that doesnt help you. You might need more Cortef? You shouldnt be nausated all the time that should be able to be fixed for sure. Let me know I hope this helps you. Eat small frequent meals. Darla

Hi Kristen nausa also is a symptom of low soduim levels so this also can be a possible cause for your nausa. Just want to tell you that as well. I hope you get to the bottom of it and get rid of the nausa. Not fun at all Best wishes. Darla

hey thanks darla, yeah i already have changed diet an everything, i've been battling the nausea for almost 4 years now, i'm on 10mg am 10mg afternoon for my cortef and the florinef made me feel worse. i drink a lot of gatorade for sodium and the sort and i eat pretty healthy for the most part. dr's are stumped still
