As long as it's in the original packaging and your name matches the prescription you should be fine. I'd get a doctor's note just in case TSA decides to be dumb and give you grief.

I have flown several times with my emergency injection. The TSA standards for medications can be found at http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/what-expect-if-passenger-needs-medication. I've checked my solu-cortef with syringes through security at least 12 times without issue.

Does anyone else have trouble with air travel? I haven't flown since being diagnosed. I flew to Vegas on Saturday and flew back home Sunday morning. I have been sick since I got home. There was turbulence on the way home which I think played into it. Any advice for future air travel?

I took that air flight this past weekend and had no problems at all with getting my HC injector through the TSA check. They didn't even ask to see it. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice!

Jenna, as for being sick on flights, I have always had problems with being sick on planes and learned a long time ago to take Bonine before the flight. It works great and even with lots of turbulance I have not been sick. I also have prescription anti-nausea meds but the Bonine works so well I never have to use it on planes.

I travel quite a lot long haul, mainly,taking packs on board ok, I get doctors note just in cars, but they've never asked to see it. However I have notice with trip to Australia,Florida, I've need wheel chair to get off, legs go wobbly so much, they won't let me off plane without wheelchair, so times I'm fine then other times not, drink plenty of water, preferably bottled as it has got all minerals we need to stay hydrated, if not take dyrolyte is called that in GB it's for people whom has to stay hydrated. An ICU doctor explained to me while I was in ICU in Hawaii that for Addison's patients it really takes an extra toll on our bodies. We need to stress dose well before the flight, 24 hours in advance. Because you rise up to 30,000 or 35,000 feet in about 35 minutes and everyone's bodies starts making extra blood cells to compensate for the altitude. Then in just a few hours you start to land and descend from 30,000 feet in just twenty minutes and your body turns off the blood cell making machine. This is really hard on the endocrine system, so you feel like you are in a slight crisis either during/ or after the flight. The only way to avoid this is to stress dose for the flight.

I am an airline pilot for a major canadian carrier. I've have no issues with regards to having to stress dose while flying. I am back on 25mg HC from my 7.5 Pred. I fly an average of 21 days a month, and I've found only need to stress dose when I start getting sick because you are in close contact with so many sick people in or around the airport.

I don't have an injector kit, my canadian endo doesn't think it is necessary, he believes that If i cant hold my pills down I should seek medical attention at a proper hospital.

I think your endo has never had a patient who had such a bad crisis that getting fast medical help wasn't possible. I had such a situation and if my husband had not been home at the time of my crisis, there would have been no way I could have even called 911. Having an injector kit can definitely save your life!!

I Have asked for it before, but he is stern in making me go to the hospital at any sign I am not feeling well. I am one of two patients of his with addisions.

I think with Addison's it depends on how well you are coping physically with the disease as to whether or not you need to stress dose before travel. I have multiple illnesses caused by undiagnosed celiac disease. So I am not able to travel, even by car on vacation, without stress dosing. Some people on this site are able to live an almost normal life. Some of us struggle more on a day to day basis. It is a very individual thing. I agree it is very important to have the emergency injection kit, you just never know when you'll need it.
