That is great, it is amazing how fast your body can go down.. I went to the hospital with heads up and waited in emergency for 3 hours before they seen me... I am glad to hear your hospital is there for you, it is reassuring....

That is terrible that your ER didn't take your situation more seriously! Perhaps your endo should give them a lesson in what happens if an Addison's patient isn't treated promptly.

I am truly thankful that I had responsive treatment, I don't know if I would have survived otherwise. My blood pressure was down to 76/45 and my body was completely numb.

Hope you are feeling better, its horrible having a crisis you feel so vulnerable and well done to your brilliant hubby. You are lucky to have a hospital that acts so quickly. I had a full blown crisis last year and was taken in by ambulance then stayed on a trolley for 3 hours until seeing someone but then I suppose thats how it is in England. It was only my husbands persistence that made them do all the necessary tests. Nobody seem to understand how to treat me apart from my husband.

I carry sea salt in my purse for just that reason. Anytime my legs get shaky and I got disoriented and my vision gets cloudy, the salt always makes it go away- like INSTANTLY away.

Before I started carrying that salt, it hit me one time as I was walking in the grocery store. I wobbled my way to the drink aisle and grabbed a gatorade and sat down on the floor and drank. I was SO very embarrassed. The gatorade didn't work that well either but I was able to walk down to the snack aisle and open a bag of pretzels to suck on. I was so drunk-feeling that I walked right by the cake and spice aisle that has 50 cans of salt for sale LOL!

If I was vomiting, I would put the sea salt chunks under my tongue and let it dissolve. Some of it would have to get absorbed because soem medications are taken that way- sublingually

Webber, put some sea salt chunks in a empty pill bottle and carry one in your purse, car and in desk at work. It makes me feel more "in control" of this illness and I feel safer knowing there's salt, wherever I go in life. I've told my co-workers and husband that if I am slurring my words and sitting on the floor- get ME MY SALT NOW!

Lori and Kay thank you so much for your responses to my issue. I am very thankful for a great hospital and husband. I would hope that all hospitals are like mind but now I see that many are not.
Lori, as for taking salt, that is such great advice and I always keep it with me but in this case it just wasn't working which scared me even more. The hospital just called me and told me that I also had a bacteria infection which is what probably triggered that crisis in the first place. This disease can be so tiring!

One thing you might want to ask your primary care doc or endo is for some anti-nausea meds (zofran or phenegran) so you can take it in a case like this. While it may stop the vomitting all together, it will allow you to keep extra medicine down. A month after being diagnosed with Addison's I found myself in the same situation you found yourself in, we had a horrible stomach bug and I spiraled out of control so quickly. My hub called my Endo and the endo told him to crush up HC and mix in water to try to get some in my system and then get to the hospital if I couldn't keep it down. After this crisis I was given a regular script for zofran, thankfully I haven't had to use much of it, but it is a lifesaver when I do get sick to my stomach.

Glad you have such an awesome hospital, I have one of the worst and while I was in crisis I had to try to walk them through what I needed...talk about a nightmare!

Gash, thank you for the advice! The endo at the hospital actually sent me home with a prescription for Zofran which we filled on the way home. It has two refills on the prescription so I have that one covered. The stuff is so helpful because that night I still had nausea so I took one before bed and sleep great without issue. I have added some to my travel kit so I don't forget to have them with me at all times.
I feel so fortunate to have such a great hospital close to home. I live in Vermont and it is the largest hospital in the state and connected to the University of Vermont.

Very good suggestion for the anti nausea pills, I do have some over the counter ones but think I will ask on these (zofran or phenegran), We have to be prepared for anything... Thanks for the advice...

I had an experience today at the grocery store. I was feeling fine when I left home and I had been there about 20 minutes when I suddenly felt sick on my stomach...not bad but enough to make me swallow and salivate. Then I know something wasn't right so I grabbed a bottle of water and thought I could go sit in my car until I was feeling better but I got in line to pay and know I was in trouble. I HAD to sit or I would have fallen!! I felt so VERY weak like I was going to pass out then I had to lay in the floor. I felt so out of it that I wasn't even embarresed. I just wanted to lay there and not talk then I slowly started to feel more and more like myself. I never really went totally out but was not right. The same thing happened 2 weeks ago I was with my sister in law and I had to sit or I would have fallen.....again I felt like I was going to faint. I am puzzled and a little scared I guess just because I don't understand. Does anyone think it was a kind of crisis??

so this kind of worries me. I'm not diagnosed yet, but i'm really worried i might have addison's. The thing is, i think i might have already experienced a crisis once, although it must have been a small one. I was feeling somewhat sick to my stomach a few months back, and went to get in the shower, thinking the hot water on my stomach would help. (i was mistaking the symptoms for pms, although i was on bc shot and haven't been having periods.) well, i got into the shower and was fine, but suddenly i got really nauseated and dizzy, then just started heaving over and over again. I was so disoriented i couldn't really move, was just sitting under the running water hoping it would go away. After a good amount of time i was able to drag myself out of the shower and to the bed. It went away, but i still don't know why i did it. Now that i suspect i have addison's , that episode makes a lot more sense. i have to find a way to get the tests done, even without insurance!
