Addictive Personality Disorder Community Group
Addictive Personality Disorder (APA) is a mental disorder that deals with people who have a recurrence of substance abuse [drugs, alcohol] and process addictions [non substance addictions : cutting, sex, gambling, overeating / undereating..] Everyone is welcome to post about anything that is influenced by being drawn towards addiction! Its a newer diagnosis that is...
I guess I'm at the point of feeling enslaved by my addictions, especially the ones with unpleasant consequences or socially shunned; the ones that prevent my freedom to make other choices. I'm trying for umphth time to stop smoking. The security / comfort of repeating the same behavior makes it difficult to stop, easier to continue. Stopping puts me thru discomfort. Discomfort with what?
You see, thats the deal for me. What I'm uncomfortable about. Its not physical withdrawl, from nic that is minor. So what is the drive to continue? Is it some deep Freudian anxiety or is it just that I'm a wuss running from minor discomfort. Or both????
The "security" if smoking dictates the company I keep & how long I stay.
My habitual running behaviors actually increase / trigger panic attacks. Take my pacifiers away & watch me LOL. Unravel the addictions & panic subsides.
I am trying to replace weed with media, writing, and posting more here. Plus I am in the MA group.
Love seeing this small group, the MA group seems to have no leader anymore, and I can't even find an admin when I need one.
Such a great idea for an intimate group.
LOL I have seen support groups on tv but never been to one so that felt good to say that. Also I did try joining the MA online support group but my computer had a problem with COOKIES or something. Maybe this laptop has an addiction too. LOL
Thanks for having me
But as far as substances, legal or illegal, food, cigarettes, relationships, sex, and on and on........... I am highly suseptible.
I'm glad I found this group. I hope to see more activity here.
