Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Julian has Adenovirus. His stool tested positive for it after he began to have severe diarrhea about a week ago. He has been back in the hospital since Monday, because he became dehydrated. He is still here, I believe because his diarrhea is still pretty significant (though I do believe he has improved slightly). They also wonder if he maybe has another virus in addition to Adenovirus. My concern is blood counts. The doctors have reassured me that it is not uncommon for WBCs and ANC to drop with viral infections, but it still freaks me out since that was the first sign of relapse for him. He is still within normal ranges for everything, but WBCs and ANC have both dropped quite a lot in the past couple of days. Platelets are hanging on very well, and Hemoglobin has not been affected at all to this point. Just wondering if others have had similar reactions. Thank you!

I am so sorry to hear that precious Julian is dealing this infection and is hospitalized. I completely understand concern with wbc and anc. Although I am not sct, my counts have trended down and I'm concerned. I remember your fear when he relapsed. I cannot imagine what you've endured. I do know that these counts are very sensitive to viral infections. I'm praying that this will pad and Julian can be released and back to normal.

I too am sorry that Julian is in the hospital with this infection. I cant offer any advice on it but I wanted you to know that Julian is alwsys in my prayers.
