Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

This is such an unimportant question in the grand scheme of things, but I've been wondering about it... If you are the type to have a casual glass of wine or beer, at what point during the SCT recovery did you and you doc deem it "ok" to do so?

My doc told me that I would need to be off of Tacro (anti-rejection) before I could have a glass of wine. Just curious of other experiences. If all goes as planned, I'm scheduled to start weaning off Tacro next month.

I know. It's such a minor thing. I've been afraid to post this. I'm just so anxious to do normal things again. :-(

It is not a bad question. We ask have those things that mean return to normal to us. I would follow your docs advice. As I near the two year mark of dx, many things remind me of that time and make me sad. For r example, today I went to a cheer mom meeting for my two junior highdaughters. Last year at this time, I attended this meeting with my mask on as I was still immune compromised. What a difference a year can make.

I'm pretty sure its bc your liver is (has been) being put thru the ringer w Tacro, and the docs are smart to tell you to hold off while your on it. The drugs post SCT are big time and your liver processes all of them,no need to add alcohol on top of it just yet, soon enough thoug, it'll tadte even better!
They need to make sure your liver enzymes are good (bc theyre monitoring for liver gvh) too and even a glass of wine can elevate them, we've had this talk too btw

yes. lea is correct, your liver has been through about all it can take, i'm 15 months out and still haven't been told i can drink any kind of alcohol. i've been off the tacro for a long time, I'd ask the docs about it, but it may be a while yet. Nothing wrong with getting back to your normal, pre-cancer life, that's a good thing!

Thanks for the response to my silly question. We've been watching all the levels, liver enzymes have remained normal. I've had slightly high kidney function levels. Drinking a lot of water to resolve it!!! It's amazing what our bodies have gone through with the treatments. :(
