Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
On Feb. 13, Keir celebrated his second re-birthday. He seems to be doing very well but I still get incredibly anxious over his routine checkups. I just hate them. He still goes every three months. How often do the rest of you see your doc post bmt?
He continues to look for work - no success so far.
His next check up is March 2, a week from today and i'd appreciate prayers and good thoughts that all goes well. Praying for all of you on this board and wising for the very best.

Happy 2nd re-birthday to Keir - welcome to the club :) As I posted before, I reached my 2nd re-birthday on 12 Feb and my oncologist now only needs to see me every 6 months but I still need blood draws done every 3 months. This may be unique to me because I had an identical twin BMT so no GVHD so closer monitoring for me may not be required. To be honest, those anxious moments prior to checkups may never totally go away and as a mother it may be harder when your child is the one going through it, but it does lessen and I pray this for you too.
I'm now at 38 months post transplant and I still see the doctor roughly every 10 weeks. She said I could reduce the frequency of my visits but I insist on keeping that schedule. I still get anxious, I don't think that will ever change, it's just the way I am. I know you can relate to that. But I like the reassurance that she gives me that things are OK.
I think of you and Keir all the time and I've never stopped praying for you. I always pray for my friends and will always do so.

Keir has been extraordinarily blessed in his AML journey. He has had some curve balls but overall it has been a very smooth experience. Loyola has been a great resource, his medical team on top of everything, and encouraging, and this place has been a wonderful source of support. This is a beatable disease,never give up
