Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Happy to share that my husband was released from the hospital yesterday. He was released 3 weeks to the day since we was admitted. I never expected him to be out so soon. He had a few rough days a few days after the transplant, but is doing well. His doctors were very pleased and said that everything couldn't have gone better and the rough days were all normal part of the process.
He is eating, not nearly has much as normal, but he is eating. Walking in short spurts. His biggest issue is extreme fatigue, he tires very easily. I am sure this is common as his body rebuilds and recovers.
We are watching for fevers, but I try not to dwell on it. We are following the "home" instructions and moving forward to recovery with hope and optimism. We have a ways to go and I am sure the pace be slow with some ups and downs, but our eye is definitely on the prize. So nice to be on this side of the transplant.
Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement, you all have and continue to be my 'angels" in guiding me through this journey. You all have helped me be a better caretaker for my husband.

I am so, so glad that you posted the very positive news of your husband's release from hospital! We sure do need some good news around here! It will be wonderful to hear from you as he continues to recover from his SCT, if that is possible, especially as Keir, Sal, Tasweigan (sp?), and warrior look like they will be right behind him on the road back to good health. Continued best wishes to you both - onward and upward!

I remember the fatigue after being released from the hospital. It took all my effort just to take a shower, and then I had to go in for clinic checks, it was so hard, but it got easier. I was think it was about 3wks post transplant for me too, I was admitted Jan 18 then released around Feb 2 or so 2013, around a year ago, wow. For me I did not get any fevers, I feel so fortunate. Congratulations to your and your hubby, praying for continued smooth sailing.

How awesome that Harry got released at three weeks. Being home is so comforting and so much more restful not to mention the reduced exposure to germs. Praying for a continued smooth recovery for Harry and some well deserved rest for you.
