Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Today my husband will receive his transplant. We have been advised that the cells are being flown in and he should be receiving the transplant around 10 o'clock p.m. I can't believe we're finally at this point it's been quite the roller coaster to get here. to be honest there were days we felt like this would never happen. My husband is feeling great and ready to get the show on the road. I like to imagine the donor out now celebrating with his family and friends after completing his part of the process. He deserves that and so much more. I know we still have a road ahead of us but it's nice to have gotten to this milestone. Feelling blessed on this happy day :)

You must be so excited to be at this point! It really is extraordinary to think of the donor's part in all of this. While my Dad never did receive his SCT, I am so grateful for the young man who gave of himself in such an amazing way so that my dad's life might be saved. I hope that his donor, wherever he may be, will have a good, long life.
Hope your husband's transfusion will be smooth from start to finish! Please keep us updated as to how he's doing.

Praying every day for you and your husband. He will do great. Make sure he is exercising daily. That will just make him stronger when he gets out of the "slammer." Also be sure he eats as much as he can. Your attitude is perfect and I hope it is shared by your husband. Do not anticipate issues. Rather, just accept what happens along the course. When the marrow engrafts and the counts start to rise, you will both be so happy, and you will rejoice about finally being able to move along toward good health.
