Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
I work at a college and the fall semester just started which is always a very busy time so I am just now able to read all the posts about the members who have had or will be having transplants soon. I thought it would be easier to make one post than try to post to each one.
It's so very good to hear that all seem to be doing reasonably well and that you are on your way back to a healthy, normal life. You will all be in my prayers that the good progress continues!
Thanks for posting and letting us share in this journey. It makes it a little less scarey when we think of the possibility of one of our loved ones having to go through the same process when we see the great success that is achieved.

My latest straight out of the oven is that my latest blood test shows I'm no longer neutropenic! It's evening here so the nurse told me but my doctor went home already. I hope the results stay the same or better tomorrow morning, cause it may mean I am on my way to being discharged within a few days.
I still have the mouth sores (less) so chewing is still not an option, but this is a very very big light at the end of the current tunnel
On the other hand, I woke up this morning all bloated with tons of fluids and gained a lot of weight overnight. I wonder (and hope) if the two things are related, and hope this retention goes away soon...

I so agree with Debbie. As a chemo only candidate with sct as plan b, I am no longer petrified of that option. Prior to joining this amazing group of warriors, I dreaded even the mention of sct. Now I know it is doable and that it is the only true cure. For all who have bravely traveled this path I thank

Great news about your numbers and yes that bright light is just around the corner, so keep watching for it you will be there soon.
They gave Jeremy Lasix (sp?) and he said he made many trips to the bathroom getting rid of all the fluid, so hopefully that is all you need.
The mouth sores will get better real soon now and you will be hungry and eat again.
I am so happy for you, it just gets better each day now.

Whom ever the hospital was talking to at the insurance company was refusing to approve the prescription unless he had an active fungal infection, but it looks like the doctor finally got them to understand that it was better to give the anti fungal drugs than to hospitalize and treat for a fungal infection in a stem cell transplant patient.
