Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Since dx just over a year ago, I have had a white coating on my tongue. I am able to scrub it off with it reappearing by the end of the day. My med team has never commented about it other than to remind me to follow oralhygiene. I rinse with saline and have Even been able tho floss without bleeding because it seems my platelets are up, God willing. I have my first clinic visit on Monday since deemed in full remission in Jan. My concern is that the coating seems heavier and my tongue is a little tender probably due to multiple scrubbing per day. I thought thrush usually happened when you are neutrapedic and as of my last labs a month ago my anc was 2.1. Has anyone had this happen. I have never had thrush and I'm not sure this is what it is. I am more concerned with my anc than the mouth thing especially since what has happened to Tony, Leas husband. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know I suffered from white tongue which one of the nurses at the hospital said was due to mild dehydration. I was surprised as I was drinking at least 2 litres a day but some medications and treatments can cause dry mouth. She suggested drinking a fizzy drink to de-scale the tongue and then use a mouthwash and toothpaste especially designed for dry mouth such as Biotene (which I still use even though my symptoms have disappeared) and upping my liquid intake whilst my symptoms were still there. How thick is the film on your tongue? Mind was just a thin coating but hard to shift for a while even with tongue-brushing but it eventualy did :)
I'm glad I'm not alone. I do think my diet may contribute because I use full cream in my coffee and I drink several protein drinks per day. My biggest concern is that my immune system is down causing the symptoms are increasing. I'm sure I'm over thinking this as I often do. I'm just curious if others have experienced this.
