Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

2 yrs. ago this month I was diagnosed and scared as hell. I knew nothing except I had cancer. My doctors told me to stay off the internet and like most I didn't and im glad I didn't. I found this site and this forum and realized I wasn't alone. I have made such wonderful friends and the support has been overwhelming. So, with that being said, thank you to all of you for your support and love I just want you to know how much it still means to me. Im 17 months post transplant and doing great :)

Those of you that are new, your at the right place, I know your scared but put your faith in God and people on here and you will be fine. Im living proof of that so keep your head up !!

Thank you for sharing your encouragement. This month marks the one year diagnosis for my son Keir and I will echo your views that the board has provided an enormous amount of help. As a caregiver and not the patient, my experience is a little different but the best advice I've gotten includes keeping "blinders on" - eyes on the prize, don't get derailed by bumps in the road, don't get too obsessed with numbers, and never ever give in to despair.

I am so glad you are doing well, Phil. For those people here who don't know, Phil is doing an incredible job of recruiting people for "Be the Match." Helping others is definitely one of the best ways to share the blessings of this board.

It is so good to get these reports. We have had a few setbacks recently on the forum, but for the most part so many are doing well. So for those who are new and scared to death, please join us and let us help you. To all survivors -- thanks for staying aboard and helping others who are having the same type of issues that you have now overcome. You provide great hope for them at a time when it is probably the best medicine that they can possibly have -- dave
