Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

My husband is yet to find a donor for transplant. Statistics from the doctor are not overly good for survival. Wondering if people are willing to post how long it has been since diagnosed? It is getting more and more difficult to look forward and have hope.

don't listen to the stat's, there are some people on the board who are chemo only.

Normally they check your country first for a donor then overseas, there are lots of tests firsts :)

sometimes we have good days and other days we have low days, and you are 100% deserve to have those low days.... just brush it off and get back onto not looking at any negative .... it works :)

We were basically told that my mum had no chance of getting into remission the first round, and we proved everyone wrong :)

My wife was diagnosed Dec 18th. June 17th will be her day 100 after transplant. They could not find a donor match and had to use two partial umbilical cord matches. Other than the normal stuff, she's doing great and the doctor gave her horrible odds...17% chance of cure :)

Keep your hopes up, there's always hope.

I received my non-related donor transplant 33 months ago and am doing fine. Be positive. I have never, and will never read statistics relating to my AML. It is best to just keep looking straight ahead, never back.

Please dont give up on hope and prayer. They did not expect my 33 year old son to get into remission with just one induction because he has AML resulting from MDS, but he did. He is now also waiting for a SCT donor as they told him his odds were 0% of cure without it.

My son feels his odds were 1 in 1,000,000 that he would get MDS at his age, so he is not letting their odds get him down and is just taking it one day at a time.

There are several on this forum who have beaten the odds and are alive and well today.

Completed 2.7yrs in remission last month, chemo only. Was given the std 30% chance, since no flt3 or other specific tests were done.

When I was DXed they were about to call hospice -- they said with MDS there was not chance of getting into any kind of permanent remission. That was about 4.5 years ago -- I am now 70 and am chemo only mainly because at my age they did not figure a transplant would really increase my odds that much. Its time to forget about the odds and start fighting like hell -- most of the people on this list are beating the odds or have already beaten them (or are caregivers of those who have). My power is about to go out so I am going to have to wrap this up -- remember to call upon God for His help -- dave
