Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Hi everyone,

I haven't been very "vocal" in this support group but I keep up and read all your posts ever since I joined. I was diagnosed with AML in November 2013 and after 4 rounds of chemotherapy and no BMT I am still in remission. I have follow-up blood tests every 3 month my most recent results on June 15th were normal. I feel great and am quite active.

Feeling very grateful and hopeful -just wanted to share

Yes, our great appreciation for your good news -- it gives us all encouragement. I am chemo only because I was T{8;21} and because of my age (then 65) it was a wash as to whether a transplant would give me any better chance of survival or not (verses the risks and the GvHD). Since I (we) are still around (I am 5.5 year survivor), I guess we made the right decisions for US, although I do not push this for everyone. It is hard to handle the bad news on the list and I fear a lot of people drop out for that reason. We need good news and I hope that you will stay on and give advice and just let us know that you are doing well. Never stop praying, but when things are good -- time to give thanks. Yeah Mary-Kathereen,

So amazing to see your great update! !!! You have never left my prayer list. I'm currently finishing three weeks in europe (14 counties) with my precious daughters, 10, 12 and 14 and my amazing husband. We have had a glorious time praising almighty God for the opportunity, my healing and His traveling mercies. I know you love to travel as well. So happy you are well.

Yay! I'm happy that you're feeling well and are able to be active! Thank you for sharing with us! I love to see good news from cancer survivors. November of 2013 was when I was diagnosed. Bad year...

Mine is very similar story. No bone marrow transplant. 4 rounds of chemo. 38 blood transfusions. 13 platelet transfusions diagnosed Sept. 2014. Remission since November 2014. But still tired every day. Blood counts not fully recovered, but not considered to be at dangerous levels. Stable/flat for over a year now. Done with chemo for over a year now as well. In experimental trial study. Thanking God for every day I get. Joined a cancer support group locally a few weeks ago. My brother had multiple myeloma and passed away in May of this year, which he fought for almost three years, never in remission. You and I we are the lucky ones, being in remission from AML. Take one day at a time and keep thanking God every step of the way.

So great to hear from you Donald, especially that you remain in remission. I am nearing 3 years post chemo. Me you and Mary-Kathreen (bou) are the exception but we exist.

So sorry your brother lost his battle against mm. My brother had NHL. so strange to see ask these blood cancers in the same family.
