Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Hello all,
Just a quick update on my husband, Harry. Tomorrow will mark 4 weeks since he received the SCT. We met with his Bone Marrow Transplant doctor this morning, he is very happy with how well he is doing. He had some risks going into the transplant because of a prior lung infection and the brain bleed, but all is well. His doctor said often they need to see patients a few times a week once they leave the hospital and often they required IV fluids or transfusions. His counts are all normal or near normal, his doctor stated that it was clear the engraftment occured and the new cells are "doing their job". Unless we hit some time of complication he only wants to see my husband once a week. No transfusions are needed.
I know everyone recovers at a different rate, but for those on Team Transplant 2014, who are slightly behind my husband on their journey I can tell you that at 4 weeks, he is feeling so much better than he was. His biggest complaint is fatigue, he tires easily and he says food still tastes differently, but other than that no other issues. In fact as I type this he is on the treadmill and just asked "what's for lunch" :)
I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, but today is a good day and we will enjoy it!
