Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Lori is having trouble posting to DS because her computer is on the blink. She wanted me to post this for her ...

Keir is now 13 months post sct and feels well. He sees his doctor next Wed., March 18, and is supposed to start getting vaccinations at that time. I would greatly appreciate prayers that his bloodwork is and continues to be good. I (Lori) still get very anxious. We recently had a loss - a good friend who reached out to Keir during his transplant - died from complications from a second transplant. This roller coaster is a rough one and we are grateful to DS and all you who have been supportive.

We are overjoyed that things are looking so well for Keir. I will be praying for Keir and I know all of you will be as well. Please encourage Keir and Lori with your posts and your prayers. She should be back on before too long. -- daveB

Hi again Lori. It's good to hear from you again, it's been a while. And it's great to hear such a positive report on Keir. I was just thinking he should be around a year, I knew he was a little more than a year behind me. As always he and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry you are still anxious about his health and I hope you will overcome that soon but I also know it's difficult. I'm also sorry to hear of your loss, the reality of this disease is harsh.

Hi Lori and Keir, I think of you two often and hope that things are going well for both of you. I too am doing well post transplant and had my 1 year assessment from BMT team and they have said they do not need to see me except for annual clinics - yay! Because I had a syngeneic transplant, no gvhd so no need for strict checks. My normal haem onc visits are pushed out to 3 monthly. Only problem experienced was with re-vaccination. I've had terrible reactions to them so they are now testing my levels to see if I have adequate protection so I don't need to complete the whole re-vaccination schedule. New immune system, new reactions I guess. Just thought I'd let you know in case you experienced similar as it really shook me up as the symptoms I had were so similar to when I was diagnosed! Luckily just a reaction to they think the tetanus part of the booster.
