Well our good news bubble was burst, We thought that when we were told of the Mayo Clinic results of the last aspiration showing no genitic mutations that Jamie would only have chemo for his treatment. After our initial consultation at the Sitman Cancer center in St Louis last Monday we were told that he would in fact have to have a bmt this year, if and when a match is found. We were told an hla test would be performed by a labratory in CA, to prepare for transplant. When I asked what about what we were told regarding the Mayo Clinic testing we were told by the doctor in St Louis, well I dont know what test were run, it was if he had not even reviewed Jamies file because he asked us the history leading up to his diagnosis, he talked to us like we were just finding out he had AML, He also told us becayse his AML was complex (involving more than one mutation) he would have to have the transplant. His intial aspiration results were 9q deletion with two metaphases having trisomy 21. Has anyone else here had this mutation? His only sibling has now been tested, we are waiting on those results but have been told there is a small chance of a match, then they look to the NBMR. It sounds from what this doctor has told us they will continue with consolidation treatments until a match is found then off to St Louis. We both have been reading on bmts and are wondering what if they arn not able to find a match, surley he cant just keep going into the hospital for 3.5 weeks then home and the back to the hospital could he?
