Hi everyone, my name is Chelle and I'm new.

My mum had MDS for which they had stopped chemo as it was no longer working, though she still received haemoglobin and platelet transfusions - she is 75. A recent bone marrow test showed an increase from 18% to 48% which apparently means she now has AML.

She has been offered chemo (cytarabine ) with a 4 - 6-week stay in the hospital, followed up by thrice-weekly injections at home if all goes well. If, however, she doesn't respond well the treatment will be terminated and sshe will be sent home.

Her quandary is whether it will be worth the risk. I know no-one can answer that for her, but I'm looking for guidance to help her. She doesn't want to go out as she puts it, hooked up to things in hospital. I suppose I'm looking for someone of a similar age to mum who's gone through this and give an insight on how bad the treatment is or was, and what their experience has been.
