Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Yes Julie I second that emotion. 2016 was difficult. We lost many people not only to AML but all kinds of diseases and violence. I'm praying for our leaders to find peaceful solutions to our differences and for all our medical researchers to find a breakthrough solution that will help the millions suffering from all forms of deadly diseases.

Hi All, I'm new here. My dad was recently diagnosed with AML on the 8th of December. He went into emergency with what we thought was an infection from a torn calf muscle, but came out with a diagnosis of leukemia. I'm so very glad I have found this forum - others' stories have given me hope in the face of this terrible disease.

Hi all, first time poster. Like Allycat1234 my father was just diagnosed with AML (on Dec 27). He is 83. When we met the doctor she gave us very little hope. In fact no hope.

He is healthy so this was a major surprise. He still says he feels fine, although the AML diagnosis was only a few days ago. Of course my dad kept these tests all secret. He didn't want to ruin Christmas after all. :-)

After being in a fog for a few days I'm doing a little research and found this site. I'll keep reading.

Brad,

So sorry to hear of your Father's DX. I know of several older AML patients who lived many months on palliative low impact chemo such as Vidaza. Although not optimal, I chatted with many during my year of the "big gun" chemo and they seemed at peace with this approach.
