Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Hello all,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been crazy busy with working full time and being my husband's care giver and mom to our two sons. As has become our new norm since my husband was diagnosed we have been riding the rollercoaster we call AML.
He was had his transplant in January, was released in early Feb, then when back in for a few days due to fevers (later determined to be from engraftment), then he was out and doing very well, then he started having very painful stomach cramps and was admitted back to the hospital on 2/28/14 and the tests began, they checked for everything and determined that he has GVHD of the gut. Once they started him on the steroids he improved quickly. They kept him until the 10th to make sure everything was back on track.
So now we are home again and in his words is feeling "GREAT". He is eating better than he has in months and exercising daily. This is the most he has been is old self since he was diagnosed.
I am so proud of him, he has hit so many speed bumps along the treatment route and just keeps driving over them. I know there will be more, but we will just continue to take them as they come. Power of postive thinking keeps us going!
Even when I am not on, I am always thinking of and sending good thoughts to everyone here. My husband also asked that I thank you all for supporting us both. You all continue to help us more than we can ever say.

It all sounds good. Imagine, to be exercising this soon after transplant! Quite remarkable. Is Harry still on Prednisone, or have they tapered it to off? Early on there can be acute GvHD during the first 100 days which then resolves. I am very happy for Harry. Good work.
