We are in Marshfield, Wisconsin starting Julian's induction. It began yesterday. Protocol is same as his last round 6 days total. 8 doses of High dose Ara-C and four doses of High dose MITOX. The goal will be to get him right back into remission and then to send him right on to transplant, which is scheduled to occur in Minneapolis at the Children's Hospital at the University. They are cord blood specialists, as far as I have been told. My husband, my daughter, and I will all be doing HLA typing this week, and we have a consult scheduled for next week. Our hope is for him to be in remission and to have a donor ready so that there is no delay or extra rounds of chemo needed. He will go to Minneapolis for myeloablasion and then he will get his donor cells. Best case scenario would be for his sister to be a perfect match. If none of us do match, we have been told that the most likely scenario would be for cord blood. He does have a sibling in utero right now, but she is not due until the 1st of November, and the earliest we could induce would be about the second week of October (if the baby is even a match), so unless a suitable donor could not be found sooner, that would not likely happen. I guess I am just wondering from all of you what I should be asking about as we plan for the consult next week. Also, does anybody know much about Minnesota Children's and their transplant facility? I want the best of the best for my son, but being closer to home is also very helpful in terms of getting through this long process.Thank you all so much for your input.
