Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
I was wondering if anyone on here had experience with an Ommaya Reservoir? I have constantly opted out of them and have chosen lumbar punctures instead. To date, I've probably had almost 30 lumber punctures. I thought I was finally done with them, but what do you know, my leukemia decides to pop up in my spine AGAIN. So, looks like I've got many more lumbar punctures ahead of me. I am now wondering at this point if an Ommaya Reservoir would really be the better option for me. I know the treatment is more convenient, but the thought of having surgery and something put into my brain really freaks me out. If anyone sees this who has had an Ommaya Reservoir, or knows someone that has, I would really appreciate if you could tell me about your experience, and if it was a better choice for you than the lumbar punctures. Thanks!
Do not fear the Omaya reservoir. It will make your treatments much less annoying. You will get used to it, just like a port.

You have shown so much fight and courage to get through all those lumbar punctures and more. If the reservoir can help ease the distress from that side of things, it would be worthwhile considering...
