Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Dear All,
I accompanied my 58 year old brother to his first visit to"his oncologist" today- he was just dxd with lymphoma Monday. Of course he is in complete and utter shock and I felt so privileged that he asked me to go with him. What a surreal moment to sit there and watch my big bro be examined and listen to him answer the usual medical history questions we've all answered. other than his wife, I am the only one who knows.
He will have a biopsy next week to determine the type as I learned today there are over 100 types of lymphoma and many are very treatable. Those vulnerable raw moments we shared today are priceless. I believe that one of the positives of aml for me is the opportunity I had today. For the first time in our 49 year relationship, I was able to comfort and calm my brother. What a blessing from God. Please pray for him, that the type of cancer is very treatable or better yet to have a clean biopsy.

I'm sorry to read this. I will pray for his type to be treatable and for strength for him and his wife, and as always, you. You are a very special person and I can only imagine how comforting it must have been for him to have you there with him through this very scary time in his life.

4 who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.
6 But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:
7 and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.
It is not impossible, but it is extremely difficult to comfort someone when you have not experienced it yourself. To a large extent that is what this forum is all about. Being able to do this is a blessing -- a blessing that comes from bad things happening to good people. And you are indeed a very good person. -- dave

I am just seeing this post. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother's diagnosis. I hope he has good results on his biopsy. He will have great support and a great comforter in you! Prayers to you, your brother and your families.

My dear Brother's initial pathology indicates he has a fast-growing form of lymphoma. Fast growing is either curable or not. He will not know which type until mid-week. Regardless, he is scheduled to begin chemo on Friday. Ironically, he has to get a BMB tomorrow because some fast-growing types like to hide out in the marrow. This is the guy who had to pull off the freeway when I explained my first BMB. Please pray for a curable type.
