Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Dear all,
I apologize for being so absent this past week, and so feel a bit selfish in asking a favor from all of you. Please pray for my mother's recovery!
My wonderful 91 year old mother, a vital, supportive and wonderful soul, fell at home and sustained a severe head injury. She was taken to a woeful hospital, where she is now on a ventilator with pneumonia, fevers, and kidney impairment. I drive 100 miles a day to see her, and yet feel so powerless. I have found myself arguing with many of the physicians, who seem to look at her as an old lady whose time has come. Perhaps it has, but I am not willing to accept that right now.
I pray for her all day long, when I am not crying, along with my father and siblings. While I understand that we, as mere mortals, cannot understand God's plans for us, I am going to be more selfish than I ever have been on DS and ask for your prayers. Our group is one of the most spiritual gathering of persons that I have ever met, and if any cumulative address to God might do anything, I want to give it a whirl.
It's strange. I, like the rest of you (some, unfortunately by proxy), went through Hell to survive. Yet, to see my mother like this makes me wish I could trade places. Crazy, perhaps, but that is what love is all about.

Don't feel for one minute the need to apologize for asking for spiritual help. I add mom to my daily prayers without hesitation. All the support and advice you have given over the years cannot possibly be repaid but we shall try.

I am so so sorry to hear this sad news. You know I believe in the awesome power of prayer and you, your family and most specially your Mother has my family's prayers. I can completely empathize with the frustration with your mother's med team. When my mother was fading with Alzheimer's at 83 all I heard was let her go. That was in 2010 and I miss her more today than ever. While I was in the heat of my aml battle, I really needed my Ma and she wasn't there.
I wouldn't give up either. She can battle back, look at what get awesome son has conquered....the aml demon. You come from strong genes and your mom is half of that equation. I'm praying fervently.

I am so sorry to hear this about you mom. No one especially doctors should give up on anyone. I believe in the power of prayer and have added your mom to my prayers.
I'm sorry for your family... I'm praying for a speedy recovery only 4 weeks ago I battled septic pneumonia and drs also said my time was up but by Gods will and prayer I'm here.
I will start a novena this morning for your mom and if you want to pass me her name I will go to the church and have a mass said for her.

I never told my wife and sister (my two rocks) that I had signed an advance directive on myself as soon as I recovered from my delirium in the ICU, but such things, although depressing, are also very helpful in determining care.
Enough of the negative. Let's hear some good news.
Majella, I had no idea that you had been sick. If you told the people on DS, then I apologize for allowing myself to be so out of the loop. I am glad that you are better. We are all fighters here, and so is my Mom.
