Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Happy to share some good news about my husband, Harry. Since his transplant at the end of January we have weathered the highs and lows- fevers and then gvhd, which put him back in the hospital twice, but here were are just a couple months after the transplant, and he is eating great, walking a few miles or more several times a week and drumroll... is getting ready to go back to work soon. His doctor could not be happier with how well he is doing.
For those of you who are newer, since the end of July 2013 when he was first diagnosed we have gone from being told to have this family come see him because they were not sure he would make it another 24-48 hours, having emergency brain surgery while he was on chemo, rounds of consolidation treatment, having his first donor fall through a few days before he was supposed to have his transplant, to this, only 2+ months out from transplant, feeling great and preparing to go back to work.
We are blessed, life is good and you all have helped us both survive all of the above with your words of wisdom, shared experiences, support and encouragement. We are so thankful to be part of this group and and share this great news with all of you (and to Andrea and Eddie and their families). Any victory, no matter how big or how small is a win for all of us.
We both know there may be setbacks and that's okay, regardless if it is AML or something else, life is always a rollercoster, we will just keep hanging on and sharing the ride with all of you.

I could not be happier for both of you. You have weathered the storm(s) and are still standing. The rest should be smooth sailing. I just celebrated the 3rd anniversary of my diagnosis and it has been 2.5 years since my transplant. Today I had a monster gym work-out. Unfortunately, I have to be reminded of my AML when I go to the hospital tomorrow to meet with the "survival co-ordinator" and get another inoculation. After that, I will be meeting my sister for dinner, just like a normal person! I too am grateful for my good health and wish you both the best of health.

i'm struggling with the numbers jumping around. Keir is at Day 60. Did you have this issue? Any coping suggestions?
His numbers jumped around at first too, like Keir's doctors, his doctors were not concerned, they just explained that it's part of the process. I don't want to say don't worry, that's like saying don't breathe, but know that he is young and his good hands with his doctors.
