Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Last Thanksgiving, Keir and I had to stay home while our family gathered elsewhere for a meal as he was neutropenic. This year he can go with the rest of the family, and I am so grateful he is here and for all the prayers, advice, and support (and occasional head smacks when needed!) I've gotten from this board.

Thank you for reminding us of your blessing and the blessing we had with Eddie. I am thankful for all of you, and I hope and pray that we all will continue to help out each other in both the good times and those that are not so good. Let us give thanks to God for each other and for all good things on this special day set aside for that purpose. I hope that you are all having a great holiday -- dave

Thanks for posting this Lori. I'm so happy for Keir and I look forward to the day when this is just a blip on the radar screen or his life. Also the day when you can find inner peace and move on with your own life. I pray for that every day. You certainly are the epitome of the selfless caregiver.

I miss Eddie. I think of him every day. Whenever I'm in Astoria I think of our plan of dinner at his favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate his one year birthday. And our efforts to convince Andrea to make the trip up from Philly and come too. But as we know that never happened, he never made a year. I'm angry because I think they messed up his case terribly. But mostly because we lost many years of his friendship and wisdom. But I know I am a better person having known him, I just wish it could have been longer.
