Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Keir is apparently experiencing the "sixty day slump" with his numbers, especially his wretched platelets. However, the doctors are NOT worried and do not plan (unless something really changes) to do an extra bmb. They explained that they numbers usually rise beautifully the first month post transplant and the around day sixty sometimes start to decline and stabilize around day 90 or so.

I am losing my mind from anxiety but they are all calm. Keir FEELS great and nothing is dangerously low.

We do all need prayers though. I'm exhausted.

I am glad to hear the doctors have an explanation for the drop of the appropriately named wretched platelets. I have a love/hate relationship with mine. It is reassuring to hear that this cycle is common although still unnerving. Please know I continue to to pray daily for you and Keir.

Prayers sent. Dont be overly alarmed at stuff like this. I had my platelets drop about a month ago and my eyes were watering like they did before i got first diagonosed. I was freaking out thinking i relapsed for sure. They took a bmb a couple of days later and i went back the next week and my platelets were fine again. BMB was all clear. Hang in there, it will be fine. The power of prayer is a wonderous thing.

The fact that Keir is doing so well gives everyone hope. It sounds like he is really doing as well as anyone might be expected to do - even with the textbook "sixty day slump." Your stress and weariness with all of this are real, though, and I hope you are taking good care of yourself.

Not having a transplant I cannot comment on the sixty day slump thing, but my platelets were way low in the 80s for about two and a half years. Then they slowly started coming up and I did not realize is until this last round (I only get checked every six months now) that they have been climbing along with my WBC consistently over the past year and a half. Interesting how long it took for "recovery." I am still not up to normal in either platelets or WBC, but its normal for me. Stability is more important sometimes than the absolute number.
