We finally have a tentative plan. I am confident that it will go off without a hitch, so I am posting this before I get the final results from his tests tomorrow. It sounds like Julian will be admitted on October 8. He will begin Keppra that day (an anti-seizure med) before beginning his myeloablative chemo on Thursday. The first med can cause seizures. He will have seven days of chemo (including three different meds). He will then get one "day off" before he will get his double cord blood transplant on the 17th. I am comforted knowing that he is getting a double cord transplant, as from what I understand, this will help with engraftment and can also lower the risk of relapse. Just as a point of reference, I am due with his baby sister on November 1. That puts it at very poor timing in the process, as he is likely to be feeling poorly at that point, but I will be able to deliver at the same hospital, and I will only be a short distance away--down a corridor. I don't exactly know what to expect, but he is a strong little guy, and I have faith that he will get through this. I worked my last day for probably about 3 months or more today. Julian is looking forward to getting his "new blood that will make him all better," and he is hopeful for a kitty (in like a year or two when his immune system can handle exposure to a pet!). :) Poor thing--we had intended to get one for his birthday, which came about 2 weeks after relapse. I wish I could post a picture of him on here, but I don't really know how to do that. He does have a Facebook page though. It is "Julian's Journey." Thank you all for your positive thoughts and support over the past few months. I can only imagine that I will have much more to learn in the coming months!
