Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Hi everyone sorry its been so long since my last post. To bring you up to date, Jamies sister was a 6 out of 6 match in hla testing. She went up on september 9th and went throught the pherressis to extract the stem cells, they were then frozen. Jamie went up to St Louis Sitman cancer center last Monday to begin the final chemo treatment prior to his transplant. He weathered this pretty good , he did have some neasea friday and saturday but is feeling much better today. Today is his rest day, they will do the transplant in the morning. I know how blessed we are to have found a match with his sister, but realize there are still dangers with graft to host disease even with as good a match as he has, please keep Jamie in your prayers for a successful transplant. I am so glad to hear an update on Jaime-thank you for sharing. What great news to have a sibling match! Please know my family has continued and will continue to pray for Jamie.

So glad to see that things are going well with Jamie. As I keep saying...DO NOT LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER. Lets not talk about GvHD. Let's talk about good health for the next 100 years.

Make sure that Jamie is getting enough ondesetron or whatever antinausea medication they are giving him. Encourage him to eat when he is not nauseated and only small amounts. Don't give in to the weakness. He should walk as much as he can, because you want to fight against the deconditioning that happens to all of us. The less he does, the less he will be able to do and the longer it will take for him to regain his strength.

Make sure his nurses stay on top of the anti nausea meds, tony had to have them every 4 hours, compazine and zofran (so at 2 hours compazine then 2 hours later zofran- they can alternate these! this caught him up and got his body out ahead of the nausea-good luck and looking forward to posts of his healing
